QCT to present Horton Foote’s ‘The Trip to Bountiful’ in September
QUINCY — Quincy Community Theatre has announced the cast of Horton Foote’s “The Trip to Bountiful.”
What is home? A place? A feeling? A memory? “The Trip to Bountiful” tells the story of Carrie Watts returning to her beloved hometown of Bountiful, Texas. Although her overprotective son, her bossy daughter-in-law, her lost pension check and even the town sheriff would like to stop her, what she longs for most is to go home one last time.
The cast helping Carrie along on her journey includes Jeri Conboy as Carrie Watts, Jason Lewton as Ludie Watts, Allyson Riley as Jessie Mae Watts, LeAndre Wittner as Thelma, Dan Conboy as Roy, Me JW Crouch as Sherrif, Faith Castleberry and Tim Hake as Ticket Persons.
The “Trip to Bountiful” is under the direction of guest director Phil Funkenbusch.
“I am honored to direct at QCT for the first time, one of the best community theaters in the state. This is the third time I’ve worked on this play,” Funkenbusch said in a press release. “It’s been 17 years since I last directed it, so it’s really like a new play to me now. With first-class actors and staff, this is a journey, and we all take the trip with Mrs. Watts as she finds her way back to her childhood home. I am excited about local audiences discovering the play by one of America’s great playwrights, Horton Foote. Foote won Oscars for his screenplays of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and ‘Tender Mercies.’ He writes his characters with such love and respect. We all can identify.”
The production team for “The Trip to Bountiful” is comprised of scenic designer Maggie Jackson, lighting designer Corey Goulden-Naitove, costume designer Susan Scholz, build manager Seth Campbell, stage manager Doris Malacarne and assistant stage manager Quinton Metcalf.
“The Trip to Bountiful” will take the stage at Quincy Community Theatre on Sept. 13-15 and 19-22. Flex season ticket holders may reserve their tickets starting Aug. 8, and general tickets go on sale Aug. 20. Seating is reserved.
Discovery Night for “The Trip to Bountiful” will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at QCT. Participants get a view into the production process with discussion and Q&A at this free event. A Q&A talk-back session with the cast and crew will take place after the Friday, Sept. 20 performance.
