Hannibal structure fire cause undetermined
HANNIBAL, Mo. – The cause of a house fire on South 6th Street in Hannibal is undetermined following an investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office.
Just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday, the Hannibal Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 223 South 6th and all stations responded including eight duty crew members and an additional 11 off-duty firefighters.
Upon arrival on scene, heavy smoke and fire conditions were present on three sides of the building and two occupants and a pet were trapped on a second story balcony.
Firefighters quickly laddered the building and were able to rescue the occupants and the pet. One of the occupants was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Marion County Ambulance
District and the other occupant was treated at the scene and transported by personal vehicle to the hospital.
Crews were able to contain the fire in approximately 45 minutes. The structure sustained heavy fire and
smoke damage throughout. Two injured firefighters were treated at the scene and released. One pet was found dead inside the structure.
