Sutter man taken to Blessing Hospital with head injury after ATV accident near Loraine Sunday afternoon

LORAINE, Ill. — A Sutter man was taken to Blessing Hospital late Sunday afternoon after he crashed an ATV into a ditch.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded at 4:54 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, to E 1150th Street, north of N 2900th Avenue, for a report of a traffic crash northwest of Loraine. Deputies found a 2018 Yamaha YX850 on its side in a ditch. 

The driver was identified as Donald Claassen, 59, of Sutter. He had a serious head injury and was transported to Blessing Hospital by ambulance. He was not wearing a seat belt or a helmet. His passenger, Melissa Claassen, was uninjured. 

Donald Claassen was charged with unlawful operation of a non-highway vehicle on a road and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Adams County Emergency Management Services, Air Evac and the fire departments from Mendon, Lima and Loraine assisted at the scene.
