Daily Dirt: It’s just time for Kelly, Kim and a host of others to simply go away

For starters, my opening list of the most annoying celebrities could have easily been expanded from 10 to 100, but let’s start with today’s names. I’m sure it is a subject we will revisit. In the emantime, welcome to Vol. 89 of the Daily Dirt and today’s three thoughts:

1. I’ve reached the point of no return when it comes to the following “celebrities” and why they think we are interested in their lives. In no particular order:

Kelly Clarkson: She was cute and bubbly back in her “American Idol” days, but I do not want to hear or read another word about her divorce from some guy named Brandon Blackstock. I prefer the “celebrities” who like to keep their personal lives out of the tabloids.

Kim Kardashian: Oh man, where do I start? How about this: Kim, please keep your mouth closed and your clothes on. I may have missed something, but what has this woman ever done (disrobing does not count) to command the attention she receives?

Britney Spears: If she didn’t have some cred as a singer, she would be considered Kim Kardashian II. This girl is a walking time bomb.

Justin Bieber: You’re rich. You have a lot of tattoos. We don’t care.

Paris Hilton: Every so often she re-emerges to be annoying all over again.

Miley Cyrus: What in the world could her thought process possibly be?

Rosie O’Donnell: Just. Go. Away.

Madonna: She’s just an older version of Miley Cyrus.

Charlie Sheen: “Two and a Half Men” was hilarious. Your personal life is not.

2. Time to get geared up for another big weekend of college football, which also means having to put up with what can be seemingly endless breakdowns and assessments from studio analysts. Sadly, the majority of those voices say very little. I’m convinced their true passion in life is to simply hear themselves talk on national TV.

But there are always exceptions to the rule and in my mind there are three analysts who stand head-and-shoulders above the remainder of the talking heads. In order, they are:

Kevin Carter (CBS Sports Network): The one-time Florida Gator/St. Louis Ram is on the fast track to an integral role in this area, whether at CBS or another major network. He’s a likeable personality and extremely well spoken. The key to his success may be the ability to break down a football game into layman’s terms in a fashion that is not condescending. Carter is a member of the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.

Joey Galloway (ESPN): At first, Galloway, who surprisingly is now 49 years old, offered little as far as insight. But as he has matured behind the mike, his star has risen. There are very few who can provide the kind of concise and meaningful information that Galloway offers on Saturdays.

Jesse Palmer (ESPN): Years ago, I was very anti-Jesse, but he eventually toned down his SEC snarkiness and has become a respected voice for the sport. He may eventually move from the studio to one of the key in-game voices.

3. Speaking of college football, here’s Stevie Mud’s updated top 10 Tier 1 (Power 5 conferences) and Tier 2 (Group of 5 conferences) rankings:

Tier 1

1. Alabama (5-0): A month ago, Saturday’s Alabama vs. Texas A&M (3-2) game looked like it would be one of the season’s best. Now? The Tide may hang 50 on the struggling Aggies.

2. Georgia (5-0): As far as Tier 1 schools are concerned, Kirby Smart has to be the leading candidate for coach of the year.

3. Penn State (5-0): Nittany Lions and No. 4 Iowa is a huge showdown at 3 p.m. Saturday on Fox.

4. Iowa (5-0): Hawkeyes are one of five Big Ten schools in top 10.

5. Ohio State (4-1): And this one could ultimately wind up being the best of those five.

6. Michigan (5-0): That look Michigan used week with the blue pants and white jerseys was sweet.

7. Oklahoma (5-0): Remember when Oklahoma played Texas and it always had national title ramifications? Well, it doesn’t this time.

8. Michigan State (5-0): And if not Kirby Smart as coach of the year, how about MS’s Mel Tucker?

9. Kentucky (5-0): Whoa-a-a-a-a!! Look at the new kid on the block. That’s what a win over Florida can do.

10. Oklahoma State (5-0): Cowboys the only member of the top 10 to have a bye week.

Tier 2

1. Cincinnati (4-0): Right now, it would be difficult to deny the Bearcats a spot in the College Football Playoffs. But it’s a long way between now and December.

2. San Diego State (4-0): I didn’t have the Aztecs in the top 25 back in week one, but they’ve steadily climbed the ranks since.

3. UTSA (5-0): Obviously, that early season win over Illinois was no fluke.

4. SMU (5-0): A Nov. 20 matchup vs. Cincinnati looms

.5. Appalachian State (4-1): Apps are idle this week.

6. Western Michigan (4-1): This is the Tier 2 Cinderella team of the year right now.

7. Nevada (3-1): Nevada’s game this week vs. lowly New Mexico State is the same as a bye.

8. Coastal Carolina (5-0): Outside of Ohio State, I think the Chanticleers are my favorite college football team.

9. Liberty (4-1): Flames play one of the directional schools this week: Middle Tennessee.

10. Louisiana (4-1): Louisiana’s coach is Billy Napier. Is that the perfect name for a football coach from the south? An Oct. 12 date with App State is up next.
