History Happy Hour program on Thursday to feature historian discussing ‘John Wood and His Fight Against Slavery’

QUINCY — The Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum, 128 N. Fifth, recently announced the fall return of the popular History Happy Hour program series at the museum.

“John Wood and His Fight Against Slavery” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum. The speaker will be historian Reg Ankrom, the author of “Stephen A. Douglas: The Political Apprenticeship, 1833-1843” and “Stephen A. Douglas: Western Man, 1844-1850.”

Ankrom will discuss the relationship between Wood, Quincy’s founder and Illinois’s 12th governor, and the institution of slavery.

Doors for History Happy Hour open at 5 p.m. with a mini reception including light refreshments. The talk begins at 5:30 p.m. with a question-and-answer session following.
