Sandra “Sandy” J. Austin, 88, of Quincy, passed away at 6:24pm Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Bradford Villa in Quincy, IL.

Friends and Family are invited to Sandy’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. A private Graveside Service will be held at Quincy Memorial Park at a later date.

Sandra “Sandy” was born July 31, 1936, in Quincy, IL to E.E. and Alvera (Maas) Nooe. She married Harvey J. “Jim” Austin Jr. on May 4, 1957, in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2016.

Survivors include her sisters, Maurine Cason (Richard) of Quincy, IL, Vicky Willison of Buhler, KS, and Brenda McGraw of Hutchinson, KS; and four nephews, Scott Cason (Kristen) of Tallahassee, FL, Michael Nooe of Salinas, CA, John W. Willison (Brandy) of Buhler, KS, and Lyn Willison (Lori) of Hutchinson, KS.

Sandra “Sandy” was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Ki Nooe; one sister in-law Wanda Nooe (Jim); one niece, Lisa McIntosh; and one brother in-law, John A. Willison.

Sandy attended the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Westfield, New Jersey and Arthur Murray School of Ballroom Dancing in New York City. She was fan of the New York Yankees, attending numerous games and World Series.

In her senior year of high school, Sandy and her family returned to Quincy, where she started her career in banking that would span 56 years. Starting as a bookkeeper at South Side Bank, serving as a teller, Assistant Cashier, and later as Cashier/Operations officer. She then took on roles at North Adams State Bank and Mercantile Trust & Savings Bank, where she became Branch Manager, Internal Auditor, Assistant Cashier, and ultimately VP Compliance/Operations for Mercantile Bancorp, Inc. before retiring in 2009.

She was previously a member of the Quincy Humane Society’s board and dedicated 25 years as treasurer for the Adams County Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy Humane Society.
