ENCORE! awards 10 summer music camp scholarships
QUINCY — ENCORE!, the volunteer council of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association, recently announced this year’s recipients of music camp scholarships. The 10 scholarship recipients attending music camps this summer are:
Christopher Noah Schaefer, son of Chris and Beth Schaefer, a sophomore at Quincy High School. He will be studying clarinet at the Missouri State University Summer Band Camp. Christopher is a member of the Quincy Senior High School band and was named a member of ILMEA All District Band, All-State Band and has received high solo and ensemble ratings of 1.
Keira Dolieslager, daughter of Erik and Jennifer Dolieslager, is a freshman homeschooled student. She will be studying violin at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, Wis. Keira is a member of Quincy Youth Orchestra and has received six division 1 ratings for the solo/ensemble contest.
Kael Holzgrafe, son of Brian and Becky Holzgrafe, is a freshman at Quincy High School. He will be studying percussion at Phantom Regiment Academy Camp, Evansville University in Indiana. Kael is a member of the QHS drumline playing tenor drum, received I ratings at contest every year and is a member of the ILMEA All-District Band.
Jaydn Glaue, son of Russell and Geemin Glaue, is a freshman at Macomb High School. He will be studying French horn at WIU Summer Band Camp in Macomb. Jaydn was a part of ILMEA District 4 Music Festival (2022 and 2023), Quincy Youth Orchestra (2023 and 2024), and is first chair in the French Horn section at the Macomb High School band.
Madison Daggett, daughter of John and Melissa Daggett, is a junior at Quincy High School. She will be studying voice and dance in the Show Choir Camp of America at Millikin University in Decatur. Madison participates in QHS band, choir and orchestra.
Jacob Mays, son of Andrew and Laura Mays, is an eighth-grade student at Quincy Junior High School and Quincy Youth Orchestra. Jacob will be studying violin at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, Wis. He has participated in contests receiving high ratings on his solo performance.
Noah Hutson, son of Brenda and the late Matt Hutson, is a junior at Warsaw High School. Noah plays trumpet with Warsaw High School band and the Quincy Youth Orchestra. Noah will attend ISYM in Champaign. Noah has been selected twice for the IMEA All-District Concert Band, All-District Jazz Band, and highest ratings every year for solo and ensemble contest.
Lucy Grawe, daughter of Tony and Sarah Grawe, is an eighth-grade student at Quincy Junior High School. She will be studying string bass at the Joe Bonasinga Summer Music Institute in Quincy. Lucy is an honor roll student at QJHS.
Iysis Biggs, daughter of Sheila and Anthony Biggs, is a ninth-grade student at Quincy Notre Dame High School. She plays violin with the Youth Orchestra and is a member of the Quincy Notre Dame Band. Iysis has received the highest IGSMA Division 1 rating for three years and medaled. She received the PMO Band award in 2021 and 2022. Iysis will attend Stevens Point Suzuki Camp in Stevens Point, Wis.
Amber Carmean, daughter of Dan and Erica Carmean, is a junior at Quincy High School. She will be playing clarinet at the Illinois State University High School Band Camp. Amber has received several IMEA Division I scores in competition and has been playing clarinet since fourth grade.
This is the 68th year these music camp scholarships have been awarded to local students. These scholarships are funded by the estate of Martha McCrory and by Encore’s Symphony of Trees fundraising events such as Fairy Tale Tea and Battle for the Baton.
