Citizen Police Academy beginning Wednesday offers opportunity to experience realism of policing
QUINCY — The Quincy Police Department is filling the fall 2024 class of the Citizen Police Academy, a 10-week course held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. Classes will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and run through Wednesday, Oct. 16. A graduation banquet held after the academy.
This course is free of charge. It will provide citizens with a basic knowledge of all aspects of the police profession. The course is designed for participants to experience the realism of policing. While in the program, participants can ride along with an officer on patrol.
Participants spend time at the gun range, see the canine unit in action, meet the new Special Investigation Unit, conduct mock vehicle stops, fingerprinting, process a crime scene and more.
To be eligible for the course, applicants must either live or work in Quincy, attend school in Quincy or own property in Quincy. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
