Double Hearts Ranch offering inaugural northeast Missouri veterans equine retreat on Sept. 21

MONROE CITY, Mo. — Double Hearts Ranch at Mark Twain Lake will be offering a hands-on equine assisted learning program for veterans and military personnel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, with lunch included. This program is in partnership with Horses Healing Hearts of Rolla. 

Licensed social workers will provide participants with a six-hour interactive unmounted wellness program that utilizes equine-human interaction to promote self-awareness of mindset, demeanor and behavior to improve one’s level of comfort in social settings and help build a higher level of trust and communication in relationships. The goal is for participants to obtain an enhanced sense of self and well-being and stress reduction. 

The inaugural program is limited to 10 participants with a $25 registration fee. Registration can be completed by calling 573-735-7258. Closed toe shoes are required. Participants can register for a fall six-week program at the end of the day. Fall six-week sessions begin Oct. 19 and run through Nov. 30. The cost for the six-week session is $25 per one-hour session. 

Families and guests are welcome and asked to bring a lawn chair.

The program is being presented by Tamitha Ague of Double Hearts Ranch and Linda Richards with Horses Healing Hearts.

Double Hearts Ranch is in Ralls County at 42451 Oakland Road in Monroe City. It offers visitors an interactive equine camping, event or retreat experience. Equine-Assisted Learning programs are offered throughout the year for all ages that address mental and emotional health stressors and trauma. Veterans and military personnel are welcome.
