Adams County Sheriff’s Department now says bicycle accident near Ursa did not appear to involve another vehicle

UPDATE: Upon review of the evidence obtained during this investigation along with interviewing witnesses, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release late Wednesday afternoon that no signs of a traffic crash have been located and the injuries to the juvenile appear to be consistent with a fall from a bicycle. The incident is still under investigation with further details pending. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is still asking anyone with information or possible video footage of the area at the time of the event to call at 217-277-2200, the non-emergency dispatch number at 217-222-9360 or Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers at 217-228-4474.

URSA, Ill. — The Adams County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a vehicle and its occupants who were involved in a hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist Tuesday night.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department were called at approximately 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, to the intersection of E603rd Lane and N. 2050th Ave for a traffic accident involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies found a male juvenile who had been riding a bicycle on E603rd Lane when he was struck by a vehicle traveling on E603rd Lane. The cyclist sustained critical injuries and was airlifted from the scene.

The motor vehicle did not stop after striking the cyclist. Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call 217-277-2200, the non-emergency dispatch number at 217-222-9360 or Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers at 217-228-4474. 

The Illinois State Police, Adams County Ambulance Service, Air Evac and the fire departments from Ursa and Mendon provided assistance.
