Centre College teacher’s work to be featured at C-SC’s Mabee Art Gallery beginning Thursday

CANTON, Mo — Culver-Stockton College’s first exhibit of the fall semester will be ‘Shared Spaces’ by artist Andy Brown in the C-SC Mabee Art Gallery.

The gallery opening is set for Thursday, Sept. 5, and closes Oct. 14 with the artist’s talk at 6:30 p.m. on the closing day. Gallery shows are free and open to the public with gallery hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Brown, who is teaching painting and drawing at Centre College in Danville, Ky., grew up in Baltimore, Md., the son of educators. He completed his BA in 2005 with honors in painting at Towson University. After completing his degree, he moved to Shanghai, China, for the next four years, working as an English instructor at several different universities and schools.

Upon acceptance to Louisiana State University for graduate school, he returned to the United States. He completed his master’s degree in fine arts in painting and drawing in the spring of 2013, receiving the Dean’s Medal for academic excellence.

For the next six years, he worked as a full-time instructor and graduate faculty member at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. During the pandemic, he took a break from academia and spent two years living and working in Tokyo, Japan.

Brown has exhibited nationally and internationally in group exhibitions, with numerous solo shows around the US, Europe and Japan.
