Canton man, 95, killed Monday morning in head-on car crash on U.S. 61 at Route P

CANTON, Mo. — A Canton man was killed in a car crash Monday morning on U.S. 61.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Roy J. Schutte, 95, of Canton was driving north in the southbound lane on U.S. 61 at the intersection of Route P when he struck head on a 2020 Hyundai Palisade driven by Amy Ohnemus, 42, of Hannibal, Mo., at approximately 9:50 a.m. 

Schutte was pronounced dead at the scene by Lewis County Coroner Larry Arnold at 10:15 a.m.

Ohnemus suffered serious injuries and was transported by Lewis County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Assistance was provided by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, the Canton Police Department, the La Grange Police Department and the Lewis County Fire Department.
