HANNIBAL, Mo. — Katy Welch, owner of Java Jive, announced this week her plans to recreate the general store on Main Street — now re-imagined as Clemens General Store, which will be home to a deli, a rainbow of flavored sodas and a selection of nostalgic, bulk-wrapped candies.

Welch, president of the Historic Hannibal Marketing Council, saw an opportunity when the previous store closed. She hopes to open the store this fall, creating a hub for locals and visitors to enjoy Hannibal’s history paired with modern-day delights.

The deli at Clemens General Store, 305 N. Main, will offer sliced meats, cheeses, marinated salads and sandwiches.

The opening of Clemens General Store will roll out in stages, starting with the front portion showcasing the deli, soda and candy. The full retail experience will be unveiled in the spring of 2025, offering fresh fudge, vintage toys, puzzles, cookbooks, charcuterie essentials, personal care products and a Christmas section.

In a press release, Welch said, “I’m beyond excited to recreate this iconic store. There’s something magical about the charm of a general store. I can’t wait to fill the shelves with treats, toys and goods that remind people of simpler times, while offering a variety of unique meats, cheeses and specialty items that Hannibal hasn’t seen before.”

The store will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It also will offer online ordering for the deli and catering services. Follow the store on Facebook or Instagram (@ClemensGeneralStore) or visit clemensgeneralstore.com.
