QHS counseling department offering Thursday viewing of ‘My Ascension’ during Suicide Prevention Week
QUINCY — The Quincy High School Counseling Department will recognize Suicide Prevention Awareness during the week of Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. As part of the promotion, the department will be the host of a viewing of the movie “My Ascension” for QHS juniors and seniors on Thursday, Oct. 3.
This is a documentary of Emma Benoit’s journey to walk again after a suicide attempt left her paralyzed. This opportunity has been made available to QHS by the Adams County Suicide Prevention Coalition (ACSPC). After the viewing will be a short discussion panel with school counselors, administrators and members of ACSPC from noon to 2:25 p.m.
In a press release, QHS principal Jody Steinke said, “’My Ascension’ is a powerful film with an incredibly important message. Though it is ultimately a story about survival and hope, it addresses difficult, emotional and uncomfortable topics. This is exactly why it is such an important film for high school students and their parents. Having these uncomfortable conversations and facing difficult issues will save lives.”
