Macomb Fire Department extinguishes two fires on two days at same location

MACOMB, Ill. — The causes of a Thursday afternoon structure fire and a Friday morning fire, both at 221 S. White, remain undetermined and under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department.

A press release from the Macomb Fire Department said it learned of the fire at 4:22 p.m. Thursday. The first arriving units arrived on the scene at 4:27 p.m. and observed smoke showing from the first floor and roof. The on-duty crew began an interior attack and extinguished a fire found behind the front door. The fire was deemed under control at 5:08 p.m., and the scene was cleared at 8 p.m.

Fire crews were paged back to the scene at 6:03 a.m. Friday. Fire crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at 8:19 a.m.

One firefighter was treated on scene for a minor injury and was released. No civilian injuries were reported. No smoke alarms were sounding at the time of arrival.

The structure sustained fire, smoke and water damage throughout and has an estimated loss of $32,000.

Four on-duty Macomb firefighters initially responded, and additional off-duty firefighters called back to assist on scene and to cover other calls for service. The Macomb-McDonough County Communications Center, Macomb Police Department, Emmet-Chalmers Fire Protection District, Macomb Public Works, Lifeguard Ambulance Service of Illinois and Ameren Illinois assisted.
