Donald Schutte – Duker & Haugh

Donald Schutte, age 71, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024 in his home after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was born on December 30, 1952 in Quincy, a son of Herman and Dorothy (Frericks) Schutte. Don was a 1971 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. Donald married his high school sweetheart, Donna Eftink, on June 23, 1973 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She survives.

Donald was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. He was the owner of Schutte Heating and Air until his retirement. During his free time Donald enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. Don and his wife were always a strong supporter of their girls and grandkids sporting and other activities. Don was inducted in the CYO Hall of Fame and also twice in the QND Hall of Fame for both the 1970 and 1971 Basketball Teams. He was also well known for his great sense of humor and his ability to fix almost anything.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his children: Dana (Jason) Reynolds, Deanna (Kent) Church, and Danielle (Scott) Doellman. Grandchildren: Ellie and Macie Reynolds; Heather, Erika, Bennett and Kynlee Church; Gavin and Garrett Doellman. A great-grandchild: Adleigh and another great-grandchild, Elliot who will be born this week. Siblings: Steve Schutte (Rose Daniels) and Joan Buskirk (Cruez), Brothers and Sisters in law: Gwen Rupp (Myron), Mary Rhodes (Roger), Ron Eftink (Pam), Kevin Eftink (Kathy), Randy Reed and Roger Sohn. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters; Shirley Reed and Phyllis Sohn.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 9:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame, Fr. Tolton Catholic High School or the Blessing Hospital Caring Club. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
