Add Hannibal to list of places enacting open burning ban

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The City of Hannibal has implemented a burn ban effective immediately until further notice.

A press release from Ryan Neisen, chief of the Hannibal Fire Department, says the ban is being implemented because of excessively dry conditions and the lack of rainfall in the current projected forecast.  The Hannibal Fire Department will continue to evaluate the weather conditions when deciding to lift the ban.

Adams County announced on Sunday it was enacting an open burning ban. The move comes at the recommendation of the county’s rural fire chiefs as conditions across the county have become increasingly dry, with vegetation dying off from the growing season and no significant rainfall in the forecast. The last measurable rainfall in parts of Adams County was on Oct. 4.

The City of Hannibal will continue to take yard waste at the City Street Department facility on Warren Barrett Drive. This location is available to drop off yard waste seven days a week for city residents.
