Rosalie Jeanette Sherrill Walker, 100, was born December 24, 1923, to James Thomas and Lila Clare (Simpson) Sherrill in Hamilton, IL. She graduated from Hamilton High School in
1941. She traveled to Mineral Wells, TX, in 1943, to marry James E. Walker. Rosalie was a war bride and returned to Hamilton when Jim shipped out to fight in WWII. They became the parents of four daughters, Joyce, Carolyn, Yvonne and Joan.
Rosalie and Jim were life-long active members of the United Methodist Church, with Rosalie joining the Hamilton United Methodist Church as a teenager in 1938. They were also members in the McAllen, TX, UMC and Quincy Union UMC.
Rosalie was an active volunteer throughout her life – in PTA, as a 4-H leader for many years, at Blessing Hospital, and as a volunteer mentor and English teacher in McAllen, TX, where she and Jim wintered for 20 years. She was an active member of the Genealogy Society, loved cooking and feeding people, and enjoyed traveling. She and Jim met their goal to visit all 50 states.
Jim and Rosalie were married 64 years. In November 2011, Rosalie and Don Faler exchanged vows and shared seven years together. He passed away in 2019.
She is survived by daughters Carolyn (Richard) Tapia, Yvonne Bennett, and Joan (Greg) Miller, as well as an honorary daughter, Pam Schroeder; a brother, Homer Sherrill, and a sister, Lois Lewton; grandchildren Amy Swinford, Sara (fiancé Brian Stabile) Hoffman, Lara Wheelan, Jeff Bennett, Nick (Katie) Miller and Jenna Miller; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Neal; and daughter Joyce.
Visitation will be at Union United Methodist Church, 1101 State Street, Quincy, IL, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
