Burning charcoal in a foil pan leads to apartment fire at Country Club Heights

QUINCY — The Quincy Fire Department responded to an early morning fire at the Country Club Heights apartment complex just off the 3300 block of State Tuesday.

The call came in around 12:20 a.m. at 902 Country Club Heights, a 12 unit apartment building. 911 Dispatch Center received a call for a structure fire on the 2nd and 3rd floor balconies.

Engine Company #3 arrived on scene first and reported fire on the west side of the apartment building involving the wooden decks and stairway. The crew of Engine Company #3 deployed an attack line to the west side of the building, while Engine Company #6 laid a large diameter supply line to Engine #3 then assisted Engine Company with extinguishment and ventilation along with Engine Company #2.

The building received damage to the 2nd and 3rd floor balcony and stairs and fire damage to the exterior walls of two apartments. Apartments #201 and #301 also received light smoke and water damage.

Quincy Police work up occupants and escorted them out of the building and also assisted with traffic and crowd control and a crew from the Adams County EMS also assisted.

QFD had three trucks and nine firefighters on scene as well as the Incident Commander. There were no reported injuries at the scene.

The fire was investigated by members of the Quincy FD Investigation Team and found to be
accidental due to inappropriate burning of charcoal in a foil pan.
