QFD responds to fire on Chestnut St.

QUINCY — The Quincy Fire Department responded to a fire that started in a garage and spread to the home on the city’s east side Tuesday morning.

QFD received the call at 12:45 a.m. for a structure fire at 3421 Chestnut St. and Engine Companies #6, #3, #2, and the Incident Command responded on the initial general alarm.

The initial report was fire in the garage of the home, but while en route the fire was reported to have spread into the structure. The resident was outside the home and no one was inside when fire units arrived and saw a large amount of fire coming from front of the structure.

Company #6 entered and began to fight the fire while Company #3 laid a supply line from the
hydrant at the corner of Chestnut St. and Melody Lane. Company #2 and Incident Command arrived shortly after and Company #2 pulled a second line and began to put out flames from the outside and bring it under control.

There is extensive fire and smoke damage to the structure and investigators are still in the process of examining the scene and working to determine the cause of the fire.

In total there were 10 QFD personnel on scene with assistance provided by the QFD Rehab Team, Adams County Ambulance, Quincy Police Department and Ameren.
