Wentzville teen killed in crash near Canton

CANTON, Mo. — A Wentzville, Mo. teen was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 61 north of Canton Tuesday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old man was driving a 2008 Honda Accord southbound in the northbound lane of US 61 about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when a 2017 Volvo tractor trailer hit the Accord.

The driver of the Accord was pronounced dead and the scene by the Lewis Co. Coroner. The driver of the semi, who was from Minnesota, was 35 years old and not injured.

The southbound lanes of Highway 61 were closed and traffic was re-routed onto Route B during cleanup. The highway reopened around 6:30 Wednesday morning.

Along with the MSHP, the Lewis Co. Sheriff’s Office, Canton Police, Canton Fire Department, Lewis Co. Ambulance and Missouri Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
