Joyce Hunter — Hansen-Spear

Joyce Koch Hunter, age 86, of Quincy, died on November 13, 2024 at 9:00 am in her son Dan’s home, in Quincy.

Joyce was born on November 23, 1937, a daughter of Frederick W. and Lousie H. Spindler Koch.

She attended St. Francis Grade School and graduated from Norte Dame High School. Joyce worked in the family business, the Illinois School Supply, from a young age. When her children were young, she ran a day care out of her home, before going back to the Illinois School Supply. After her retirement, she worked for seven years at Walmart.

Joyce was a lifelong member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in yard and tending the garden, with her son Dan. She loved spending time at the Mississippi River, watching the wildlife and people fishing, and looking for eagles. She was an avid bird watcher.

Survivors include four children, Carol Marszalek of Bradenton, FL, Rose Deckard of Plano, TX, Daniel Hunter of Quincy, IL, and Julie (Jeff) Wiemelt of Quincy, IL; two grandsons, Wade and Justin (Alyssa) Deckard; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Hannah Jane Deckard; two sisters, Susanne Longo of Quincy, and Mary Heintz of Fon du Lac, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, David Hunter, four brothers, Melvin, Howard, Norbert, and Jim Koch, and a sister, Jean Powers.

Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, 21, 2024 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Service: 10:00 am Memorial Mass on Friday, November 22, 2024 at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, with Fr. Kenneth Ahanonu officiating.

Inurnment: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
