Girl Scouts of Central Illinois receives $35,000 grant from Marion Gardner Jackson Charitable Trust
QUINCY — Girl Scouts of Central Illinois (GSCI) recently received a $35,000 grant from the Marion Gardner Jackson Charitable Trust that will be used to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in Adams County.
GSCI annually supports more than 600 girls in Adams County through the delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). The GSLE’s program model encourages Girl Scouts to discover themselves, connect with others and take action to make the world – and the greater Quincy community – a better place.
Guided by supportive adults and peers, participants in the GSLE engage in STEM, outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship activities, from coding robots and conquering high ropes courses to learning first aid and managing their own small business. All activities are girl-led, cooperative and hands-on, leading to the development of key leadership skills critical to navigating childhood and adolescence before growing into successful adults.
“We are so grateful to the Marion Gardner Jackson Charitable Trust for supporting the Girl Scout mission,” Jennifer Sedbrook, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, said in a press release. “With their support, we can continue to empower girls, build future leaders, and make a lasting impact in Adams County.”
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois (GSCI) serves over 10,000 girls and 2,000 adult members in 38 counties throughout central Illinois with the mission of building girls of courage.
