Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum to hold events Saturday celebrating 189th birthday of Mark Twain

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30, is Mark Twain’s 189th birthday, and there will be opportunities for children and adults to participate in the “Father of American Literature’s” special day at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum.

Tickets are still available for the Tour with Twain at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Join Samual Clemens to celebrate his birthday and tour his boyhood home and other historic properties. The tour is filled with anecdotes, stories and remembrances. You will listen to Twain’s stories directly from the man himself. Learn about his days in Hannibal and how that shaped his future writings.

This tour will include going up and down stairs, so portions may be difficult for people with mobility issues. Call 573-221-9010, extension 403, for more information.

Also at 1 p.m. Saturday is the Mark Twain annual birthday bash in the museum gallery at 120 N. Main. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum invites children ages 2-10 to an annual old-fashioned birthday party. Join the Tom and Becky ambassadors to celebrate Twain’s 189th birthday with crafts for children. Old-fashioned games will be played, and there will be cupcakes.

At dusk on Saturday, the annual Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum Christmas tree lighting will take place in downtown Hannibal. Join Mr. Clemens, Tom, Becky and the Salvation Army Brass Band as they light the Christmas Tree on the Hill Street Stage near the boyhood home. Santa Claus and guests will lead the crowd in Christmas carols and a countdown to the tree lighting at dusk around 4:45 p.m. The Christmas tree on Hill Street is donated by the Branch Ranch Tree Ranch.
