Janice Evelyn (McGlasson) Kirgan — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Janice Evelyn (McGlasson) Kirgan, 71, of Liberty, passed away at 7:45 pm Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Old Monroe, MO.

Janice was born May 13, 1953, in Quincy, IL to Lee McGlasson and Evelyn Sutton Morley. On February 12, 1972, she married the love of her life, Robert H. “Joe” Kirgan, in Kingston, IL. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that lasted until Joe’s passing on July 7, 2021.

Janice’s legacy is carried on by her four devoted children: Rachel (Kevin) Little of O’Fallon, MO, Jennifer (Kevin) Schutte of Old Monroe, MO, Evelina Kirgan of Duxbury, VT, and Nathan Kirgan of Liberty, IL. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Mercedes Little (Clayton Bickmeyer), Bryce Little (Kate Ryan), Gunner and Kannon Schutte, Maeson, Madison, and Kylie Kirgan; and one great-grandchild, Ellie Bickmeyer. Janice’s loving spirit also lives on through her sisters, Kathy Haley (Neil) and Rebecca Cecil, her sisters-in-law, Susan Bancroft, Betty Nall, and Barbara Scranton, and her many cherished nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Ricky McGlasson; and four brothers in-law, Donald Cecil, Dale Mowen, Burt Scranton, and Edward Bancroft.

Janice graduated from Liberty High School in 1971. Janice’s professional life was marked by her role as a medical office manager at Reed Foot Clinic, where she worked until her retirement in 2015. Janice’s commitment to her community was evident through her lifelong membership at Kingston United Methodist Church, where she was a pillar of strength and faith.

Beyond her work and community service, Janice had a zest for life and a variety of interests that brought her joy. She was an avid traveler, with Hawaii, Florida, New York City, and Colorado among her favorite destinations. Her love for mysteries and biographies filled her bookshelves, while crossword puzzles and card and board games were her go-to activities for a fun evening. Known for her culinary skills, Janice was a good cook who delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones.

But above all, Janice’s heart belonged to her family. Her dedication to her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, whether she was embarking on an adventure or simply sharing a quiet moment at home. Janice’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the precious moments spent with those she held dear.

Friends and Family are invited to Janice’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, December 30, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Memorial Service will directly follow at 11:00 am at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Pastor Marty Pressey will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be donated to a charity at a later date.
