Hannibal man drives truck into back of Quincy school bus near South 48th, Payson Road

QUINCY — A Hannibal, Mo., man faces multiple charges after his vehicle crashed into a Quincy school bus on Tuesday morning.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of South 48th Street and Payson Road at approximately 7:13 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, deputies learned a Quincy Public Schools bus had been rear-ended by a gray GMC truck driven by Charles Dean, 42, of Hannibal, Mo.

During the investigation, it was suspected that Dean was driving under the influence. The investigation also showed Dean had his Missouri driver’s license revoked.

Dean was transported to Blessing Hospital for minor injuries. He later was released on a notice to appear for the offense of driving while license revoked and failing to reduce speed to avoid a traffic crash. DUI charges are pending the results from the Illinois State Police lab.

The bus was occupied by students who were headed to Quincy Junior High School, according to Scott Douglas, assistant director of transportation for Quincy Public Schools. He said no injuries were reported, and the bus was only a few minutes late to school.
