Adams County Bicentennial to honor churches, organizations spanning more than 150 years of operation

ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. — As Adams County prepares to commemorate its 200th anniversary in 2025, the Adams County Bicentennial Commission has created a special initiative to recognize churches and organizations operating in Adams County for 150 years or more with commemorative signs, celebrating their legacy and contribution to the county’s history.

Churches and organizations eligible for recognition have operated continuously within Adams County since 1875 or earlier, regardless of name or affiliation changes. Although approximately 35 churches and six organizations (i.e. Bodley Lodge, Quincy Family YMCA, Chaddock, Quincy University, etc.) have been identified, the Bicentennial Commission invites community members to contribute information about other qualifying churches and organizations to ensure their recognition.

Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Adams County Bicentennial Executive Committee at AdamsCo200@adamscountyil.gov.
