HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Las Vegas man has been charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon for his involvement in a Nov. 5 incident.

A warrant was issued Friday in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County charging Jerome Gaston, 23. Bond was set at $100,000 cash only. Gaston remains in the Marion County Jail.

Officers with the Hannibal Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Mark Twain Avenue on the morning of Nov. 5. One male subject involved in the shooting had fled the area before officers had arrived. Another male who was involved was contacted at the scene.

Approximately 15 minutes from the time of the initial call, officers went to another location and took the male into custody who had previously fled, along with a firearm.
