Wing Ding draws more than 800 people to Admiral Coontz Armory

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Jaycees and Golden Eagle held the Wing Ding at the Admiral Coontz Armory on Jan. 25. More than 800 people attended the event which included a chili dog eating contest, beer Olympics and a hot wing eating contest. Awards were given for first, second and third place for chili, best decorated booth and people’s choice.

BOSS (Brotherhood of South Siders), a motorcycle club serving the Marion County area since 2006, won the People’s Choice chili award. Tipsy Hicks Team with Lisa Latta, Lewis Miller, Kevin Dryden, Carla Sutter and Sabra Streeter was named best decorated booth.

BOSS also took first place in the chili competition. Second place went to The Nutters comprised of Brian Griffen, Justin Nutter and Candice Walker. Rummeys finished in third place. Team members were Darin, Brandon Handy and Bobby Ellis.

The Jaycees, or Junior Chamber, is made up of young men and women between the ages of 18 and 40 who join to improve their lives and their communities. Their goal is to provide leadership training through community service. By chairing local projects, young people can practice organization, delegation, time and resource management, public relations and motivational skills.

The Hannibal chapter coordinates several major fundraisers and public events throughout the year for the betterment of Hannibal and surrounding areas, donating thousands of dollars annually to local charities.
