MACOMB, Ill. – A Bushnell teen will spend 30 years in prison for killing his father in 2023.

In a sentencing Tuesday afternoon in McDonough County Circuit Court, Davin Purden, 19, received a 30-year sentence from Judge Nigel Graham.

Davin Purden was one of two teenagers charged in the June 2023 shooting death of Davin’s father, Travis Purden, who had had been shot in the face several times at his Bushnell home.

Davin Purden pleaded guilty to murder in November. in exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a second charge of first-degree murder that had been added on since he used a gun to kill his father. That would’ve brought a harsher sentence.

Nicholas Lafary was also arrested for the shooting death of Purden’s father and he continues to await trial.

The 30-year sentence must be served at 100 percent.

McDonough County State’s Attorney Matt Kwacala thanked the Bushnell Police Department, the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department, and the Illinois State Police for their assistance in the case.
