Investigation continues after truck crashes into ATM and burns early Saturday morning in Camp Point
CAMP POINT, Ill. — The Adams County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident involving a vehicle stolen in Quincy that crashed and burned early Saturday morning.
Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched at approximately 3:15 a.m. Saturday to the Express Wash car wash, 408 E. Wood in Camp Point, in regard to a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, deputies found an unoccupied gray four-door Dodge truck on fire. The fire was extinguished by the Camp Point Fire Department, which already was on the scene.
After the fire was extinguished, it was evident the Dodge truck had been used to ram into an ATM at the site, as well as the surrounding metal structure in front of the Express Wash car wash. The truck was unsuccessful in its attempt to dislodge the ATM and was stuck on the metal pylons surrounding the ATM. Both the truck, ATM and surrounding structure were heavily damaged from the fire.
Deputies later learned that the truck had been stolen from the area of Eighth and Gardner Expressway in Quincy.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this incident and asks anyone with information to contact the office at 217-277-2200 or Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers at 217-228-4474.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department also received assistance from the Camp Point Police Department and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
