Shirley Pieper, 93, of Quincy, passed away at 8:30 am Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL.

Shirley was born October 10, 1931, in Quincy, IL to Melvin and Celesta (Dailing) Wendling. She was married to Arthur R. Pieper on October 21, 1950, in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2020.

Survivors include her two children, Dean Pieper and Joy Jordan, both of Eureka Springs, AR; two grandchildren, Jordan Pieper of Bentonville, AR and Abby Young (Mark) of Bella Vista, AR; one great-grandchild, Parker Young; and one sister, Sandra Schaffer, of Quincy, Illinois.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Mark Pieper; her siblings, Dorothy Hanner, Charles Rupert, Betty Waterman, Jack Wendling, Melvin Wendling, Donald Wendling, Linda Scharnhorst; and one son in-law, Ed Jordan.

Throughout her life, Shirley embraced a variety of roles with grace and dedication. She worked at Motorola as a factory worker, provided compassionate care in the home healthcare sector, and took great pride in her role as a homemaker.

Shirley’s interests were as rich and varied as her experiences. She had a passion for playing cards, often bringing laughter and competition to family gatherings and neighborhood games. An excellent cook, Shirley loved to celebrate the holidays with delicious meals, and she never missed an opportunity to bake a cake for a family member’s birthday. She found solace in Christian music and delighted in the timeless stories told in classic movies on TCM. Shirley enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. Her travels took her to every state in the U.S., save two, leaving her with a wealth of memories and stories to share.

Friends and Family are invited to a visitation that will be Monday, February 3, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 am at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made to O’Donnell-Cookson to help the family with final expenses.
