Patrick J. Haugh – Duker & Haugh

Patrick J. Haugh age 82, of Quincy, IL passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Bickford in Quincy. Patrick was born in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Francis and Alma (Wickersham) Haugh.

He was a 1960 graduate of Quincy’s Christian Brothers High School. He then attended Northeast Missouri Teacher’s College for 2 years and was a graduate of the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. Patrick served his funeral directing and embalming apprenticeship in Decatur, IL. While in Decatur, mutual friends set Patrick up on a blind date with his now wife of nearly 60 years, Linda R. Brabender. On May 22, 1965, the couple were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Decatur.

The newlyweds returned to the Quincy area as Pat joined his parents, Francis and Alma, at Haugh & Son Funeral Home, formerly at 805 Spring Street. In 1965, they also purchased the former Frey Funeral Home in Liberty, IL where Pat and Linda made their home and soon began their family.

In 1983, Patrick and his brother Richard bought Duker Funeral Home at 823 Broadway Quincy, and the company was re-named, Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Throughout his career, Patrick was committed to his role as funeral director, always mindful of providing the best quality service to families, with dignity, honor, respect, and kindness. He retired in 2008.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter.

Pat was active in several local civic organizations, including Quincy Exchange Club, the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus, and he was a life member of the Quincy Boat Club. He was persistent in his goal to enhance professionalism among directors, as evidenced by his initiative to reform the Tri-State Funeral Directors Association, and his service with the Illinois Funeral Directors Association of which he was a board member and past president. Pat also made sure he had time for fun and relaxation in his life. He was passionate about classic cars and boats, possessing an innate attention to detail in restoration, and appreciation for history. He was known to enjoy an “ice-cold beer”, a sunset boat ride on the Mississippi, time at Lake of the Ozarks, and a sandy beach in Siesta Key, FL. He will be remembered for all these things, and for his sense of humor.
In addition to his wife Linda, survivors include his three sons, Marty (Deb), Ted (Erin); Matt; one daughter, Ann (Patti). Grandchildren, Kayla Jensen (Morgan), Andrea Koenig (Ron), Grayson and Caroline Haugh. Great-grandson, Theo Koenig; a brother Rick (Judy); nieces and nephews, Tim Haugh (Jenny), Kimberly Yates (Jim), Jared Haugh (Beth); Melinda Humphrey (Larry) and Andrew Brabender (Marcie). Great nieces and nephews also survive along with one cousin, Jerry Wickersham (Marcy).

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Haugh in infancy, his in-laws, August and Ruth Brabender. A nephew Jason Brabender, and his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Brabender.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, Quincy, IL officiated by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the funeral mass.
