Hannibal Parks and Recreation offering Saturday program about geology in Hannibal region

Hannibal Parks and Recreation

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A nature program focusing on the importance of Missouri’s geology, “The Earth Beneath Our Feet,” will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the City Council chambers of City Hall, 320 Broadway.

The fascinating geology of Missouri, with a special focus on the Hannibal region, along with the ancient forces that shaped Missouri, will be explained by Alan Ruble, mining engineer and local geologist.

Having worked for the Continental Cement Company for more than 25 years, Ruble is knowledgeable about our local limestone and how it has been used all over the world. This program will combine science, history and Ruble’s unique experience to illuminate the connections between the earth beneath our feet and the community around us.

This free nature program is led by Hannibal Parks and Recreation’s nature interpreter Gale Rublee and members of the Mississippi Hills Missouri Master Naturalist chapter.

Reservations may be made on the Hannibal Parks and Recreation website at http://www.hannibalparks.recdesk.com/Community/Program.
