Nebraska woman seriously injured after car runs off U.S. 36, becomes airborne and crashes into tree

MONROE CITY, Mo. — A Grand Island, Neb., woman suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 36, one mile east of Monroe City, on Monday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2023 Jeep Compass was eastbound at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, when it failed to negotiate a curve. The Compass veered off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and became airborne before crashing into a tree.

The driver, a 45-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries. Authorities confirmed she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. Emergency personnel transported to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ralls County Sheriff’s Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe City Police Department, Monroe City Fire Department and Monroe City Ambulance District assisted.
