HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man was arrested Sunday and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.

The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County charged David J. Jones, 45 of Hannibal, with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest. The charges stem from an incident that began at approximately 4:06 p.m. on Saturday, February 8.

Officers with the Hannibal Police Department were called to the Missouri Department of Corrections’ probation and parole office in the 2000 block of Warren Barrett Drive for a disturbance. Jones was in the lobby armed with a knife and appeared to be under the influence.

Officers remained outside and ordered Jones to exit the building, utilizing the public address system from a patrol vehicle. As Jones exited, he retrieved a knife from the pocket of his clothing and began to approach officers with the knife in hand. Officers maintained a safe distance from Jones, who complied with the officer’s commands and dropped the knife.

However, Jones then grabbed the knife again and began acting erraticly. Officers gave Jones commands again to drop the knife, and he complied. Jones was taken into custody without further incident.

Jones remains in the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $7,500.
