Blessing-Rieman respiratory care degree program earns continuing accreditation

QUINCY — The Commission on the Accreditation for Respiratory Care has accredited the Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences bachelor of science in respiratory care program through July 2026.

Accreditation ensures that the program meets national quality standards to prepare competent respiratory therapists for practice, education, research and service. Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat and care for patients who may have a wide variety of breathing problems or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work under the direction of a physician to provide care to all ages, including premature infants.

“The graduates of the Blessing-Rieman respiratory care program have been very successful in passing their national board certification exam,” said Danielle Lorenson, respiratory care program director. “Many of our graduates are currently employed in the region, while others have chosen to relocate for employment.

“Students are accepted into the respiratory care program each fall semester. Those interested in learning more should review the pre-requisites at any time so they can be ready to join at the program at the next opportunity, if it’s the right fit for them. The need for respiratory therapists is expected in increase in upcoming years.”

The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics projects employment of respiratory therapists to grow 23 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 10,100 openings for respiratory therapists are projected each year, on average, over the decade.
