Betty Sue Perry Mayfield – Duker & Haugh

Betty Sue Perry Mayfield, age 96, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, in the Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living. She was born on September 15, 1928, in Shelbyville, MO, a daughter to Leo A. and Effie Sue (McDuffe) Perry. She married David L. Mayfield on August 9, 1953, in St. Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1993.
She attended high school in Shelbyville, MO and went on to attend college in Kirksville, MO. Betty worked at Illinois Bell before staying home to raise her children until they were grown. She then was employed by the Quincy Board of Education and worked at Mercantile Bank until her retirement.
Betty enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and traveling. Her bus trips were memorable and brough immense pleasure to Betty. Her energy for activities seemed never-ending. She kept her mind smart by completing puzzles and crosswords and kept her body moving by dancing to blues music.
Betty was a woman of immense kindness and had deep family pride. Her warm heart and loving personality endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her resilience in the face of adversity. Above all, Betty’s great joy and source of fulfillment was her family and the time they spent together.
Betty is survived by her children:
Davala S. Mayfield of Quincy, IL; Lynette (Steve) Russell of Quincy; Perry Mayfield of LaBelle, MO; Milana (Rich) Davis of Quincy; Blaine Mayfield of Peoria, IL; and Renee J. Mayfield of Quincy.
A sister: Nyda Jo Glover of Shelbina, MO.
Grandchildren: Craig (Karissa) Russell of Quincy, IL; Bradley (Rebekah) Mayfield of North Shore, Michigan; Brandon (Ashley) Mayfield of Ursa, IL; Mason (Mercedee) Adams of Quincy, IL; and Clayton Adams (Meredith Hickson) of Texas. Great-grandchildren: Owen and Arlo Russell; Kylee Adams; Myles and Kennedy Mayfield. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Kyle D. Russell; and daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Mayfield.
Betty’s family wishes to thank the nurses, nurse’s assistants, caregivers and all of the staff at Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living Nursing Home and Blessing Hospice that helped take care of her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to the Kyle D.
