NORMAL, Ill. — The Illinois State University police filed a report Monday night following an incident at CEFCU Arena after the Quincy High School boys basketball team lost 58-50 to Lisle Benet Academy in the Class 4A Normal Super-Sectional.
According to ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff, the report will not be released to the public because it includes the names of minor, including the name of the player who received the citation.
One of the minors, a Quincy High School player, received a citation and was released into the custody of his parents.
After the Blue Devils and the Redwings shook hands, the lead-up to the altercation was shown live on NFHSNetwork.com. The altercation took place out of camera view at the front of the Benet student section with a Quincy player being accused of throwing a punch at a Benet student.
After the arena was cleared, ISU police sergeants spoke with members of both school administrations, including Quincy athletic director Kristina Klingele, at opposite ends of the floor. Police spoke with both the Quincy player and the Benet student, who was seen with an icebag on his left cheek/chin during the conversations.
No one was arrested and removed from the arena by police.
The Illinois High School Association did not offer a formal statement regarding the incident, referring to it as a police matter.
