Dr. Richard Lee “Dick” Vance

Vance-Dick

Dr. Richard Lee “Dick” Vance, age 83, of Quincy, died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 10:40 am in Blessing Hospital.

Dick was born on July 27, 1941, a son of Dr. Thomas W. and Helen Irene Kaufman Vance. He married Carol Huls, who preceded him in death in 1994. On June 23, 2001, he married Gail Rouse. She survives.

Dick was a graduate of Quincy High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic. His career began with a door-to-door sales job for Fuller Brush, but he quickly realized it wasn’t the path he wanted for his life. Following in the footsteps of other family members, he pursued a career in Chiropractic medicine.

Over the course of his 50-year career as a chiropractor in Carthage, Illinois, Dick made a lasting impact on countless families. He found joy in helping people improve their health so they could live better lives. Known for his attentive listening and thoughtful advice, he was always ready to assist anyone in need. For many years, Dr. Vance served as the team doctor for the Carthage High School Blue Boys football team.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dick loved watching sports and playing golf whenever possible. He was also an avid reader, with a passion for books that lasted throughout his life. He cherished trips to warm destinations, especially Marco Island, Florida, where he could soak up the sun and enjoy golfing during the winter months.

Above all, Dick deeply loved his family and treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren. He had a vibrant spirit and was often the life of the party. He was always ready to have a good time. Dick enjoyed vodka martinis, and quick to remind you that “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.”

Survivors in addition to his wife, Gail, include two daughters, Amy Vance of Crystal Lake, IL and Jamie Elizabeth Vance of Prosper, TX; a step-daughter, Cara (Michael) Strashnov of Union City, NJ; six grandchildren, Garrett (Elizabeth) Israel, Morgan (Michael) Israel, Devon Vance, Meghan (Larry) Grom, Carter Giles, and Christopher (Holly) Israel; two step-grandchildren, Mischa and Max Strashnov; eight great-grandchildren, Emmi Lou and Cohen Israel, Lexi, Elliott and Leo Grom, and Violet, Zara and Lyla Israel; a brother Dr. Thomas Vance of Quincy; and nieces and nephews.
