QUINCY — A Pittsfield man arrested in December for stealing a FedEx box truck pled guilty to two felonies on Thursday and will spend five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Devon L. Wagner, 26, appeared in Adams County Circuit Court with Public Defender Jonathan Hoover before Circuit Judge Tad Brenner. He pled guilty to one count of burglary without causing damage, a Class 3 felony, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony. He received five-year sentences for each charge, and the sentences will be served concurrently.

A charge of theft of between $10,000 and $100,000 by control with intent, a Class 2 felony, was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Wagner was taken into custody on the morning of Dec. 12, 2024, in Taylor, Mo., after he stole the truck.

The Quincy Police Department received a call at 10:31 a.m. Thursday that the truck was taken as a FedEx driver got out to make a delivery at 10th and Jersey. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department eventually responded to assist the Adams County (Ill.) Sheriff’s Department with an active pursuit of the truck.

Wagner was taken into custody just south of Palmyra less than an hour later.

Wagner also is facing charges of aggravated fleeing, a Class D felony, and first-degree tampering of a motor vehicle, a Class D felony, in Marion County in Missouri. A Class D felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison or one year in the county jail.

Wagner had been detained in the Marion County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond until he was released on his own recognizance by Jennifer Richardson on Jan. 3. A warrant out of Adams County was then served on Jan. 3, and Wagner was arrested and detained in the Adams County Jail on Jan. 6.

An arrest warrant for failing to appear in Marion County was filed on Jan. 10.
