QUINCY — More than 50 enthusiastic 4-H members from Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike and Schuyler counties came together on Saturday, March 22, for the annual Super Saturday, a hands-on learning event coordinated by the University of Illinois Extension in Quincy.

Now in its third year, Super Saturday offers youth the chance to explore new interests, develop skills and connect with fellow 4-H members. Participants attended three interactive workshops covering science, technology, creative arts, agriculture and more. Each session provided hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity and encourage learning by doing.

“Super Saturday continues to grow, and it’s exciting to see so many 4-H members eager to participate year after year,” Madeline Davis, 4-H program coordinator at the University of Illinois Extension, said in a press release. “The enthusiasm and engagement from these youth show the impact of hands-on learning and the value of 4-H programs.”

This year’s workshops were:

  • Cloverbud Fun (Ages 5-7) – Hands-on activities, games, crafts, and snacks for the youngest 4-H members.
  • Blast Off Basics (Ages 8+) – Exploring rocket science and the physics of flight.
  • Knots of Fun (Ages 8+) – A creative introduction to macramé and knot-making.
  • Picture Perfect (Ages 8+) – Photography tips for capturing stunning shots.
  • From Scratch to Scrumptious (Ages 8+) – Baking basics, including making a pie crust from scratch.
  • Gears & Gadgets (Ages 8+) – Hands-on robotics and engineering fun.
  • Green Thumbs (Ages 8+) – Gardening techniques for growing a thriving vegetable garden.
  • Rocks Rule (Ages 8+) – An introduction to geology and rock classification.
  • Buzzing Bees (Ages 8+) – A deep dive into beekeeping and pollinator conservation.
  • Leather Impressions (Ages 8+) – Crafting unique leatherwork projects.

Volunteer speakers led each workshop.
