HULL, ILL.- On Sunday morning, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a subject outside setting houses on fire.

When the first deputy arrived, he saw the subject running with a gas can that was on fire. As the deputy stopped his vehicle to apprehend the subject, he poured gasoline on a vehicle, which immediately set it on fire.

The deputy was able to apprehend the subject, identified as Brian D. Morris, 41, of Hull. Morris was later transported to the Pike County Jail, where he is being held awaiting a court appearance.

In total, five houses and one vehicle at a separate residence were set on fire, creating six separate crimes scenes. Three of the houses were occupied at the time the fires were set. The only house with significant structural damage from fire belonged to Morris.

Assisting at the scene was the Illinois State Police, Pike County EMS, Hull/Kinderhook Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshall.
