HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man is facing drug and weapons charges after his arrest on Friday.

The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant on Friday, April 4, for James L. Culp II, 44 of Hannibal, charging him with delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful transport of an illegal weapon, four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The warrant is the result of a drug investigation that began on April 3. During the investigation, Culp agreed to bring illegal narcotics to a female in Hannibal. Culp was stopped by police, and a search incident to arrest was conducted. During the search, officers located a large sum of currency and a large amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

A probable cause statement filed by Det. Stephen Myers of the Hannibal Police Department said Culp denied consent to search his vehicle before the probable cause search. When confronted about the drugs found in his vehicle, Culp claimed the drugs were not his and that the money was from “working every week asphalting.”

Culp’s bond was set at $50,000. He remains in the Marion County Jail.
