Easton-Jan

Georgann “Jan” Eaton, age 99, of Quincy, died on Monday, April 1, 2025, at 5:15 pm in her home. She was born Georgann Mary Morsell, on September 19, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a daughter of Curtis Benedict and Elizabeth Castle Morsell. Jan was married to, Harry C. “Bo” Eaton, the love of her life for 67 years. Bo preceded her in death on February 7, 2018.

Survivors include two sons, Harry C. “Mike” (Peggy) Eaton, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri, and Tim (Celeste) Eaton of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Laura (Tom) Rodgers of Des Moines, IA, Molly (Erin) Berggren of Des Moines, IA, Harry C. “Bo” (Kristin) Eaton III of Des Moines, IA, Jessica (Josh) Douglas of Libertyville, IL, Zack (Brianna) Eaton of Fort Myers, FL, Josh (Casey) Eaton of Winter Garden, FL, Tiffany Aubuchon of Quincy, IL and William (Katherine) Aubuchon of Maywood, MO, Molly (Brad) Griggs of Greenwood, IN and Kersten Bryant of Chicago, IL; 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Curtis Morsell Eaton, a brother, Curtis B. Morsell and her parents.
Though she grew up in Milwaukee, Jan had a special connection to Quincy through her mother’s family. She treasured her visits to Quincy, especially memorable picnics at the Eaton family farm, where she embraced the joys of family and tradition.

Jan attended Kemper Hall boarding school in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and spoke often of the experiences that shaped her there. Initially planning to follow her parents’ legacy at the University of Wisconsin, her father encouraged her to attend Northwestern University instead. At Northwestern, she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma, a sorority whose legacy would continue through three granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.

After college, Jan lived in Chicago before marrying Bo and moving to Champaign-Urbana so he could complete graduate school. They eventually settled in Quincy, where they built a home on Briar Lane and raised their three boys. Later, they moved to Woodlawn and, eventually, Knollwood.

Jan adored spending her winters on Marco Island, Florida, never missing a sunset from her balcony on Caxambas Pass. With a glass of chardonnay in hand, she and Bo would watch the sun slowly set over the water, often greeted by a flash of light, a magical moment embraced time and again.

Her passions were many: Jan loved reading, golfing, and playing bridge, and she nurtured lasting friendships that stood the test of time and added so much richness to her days.

Jan was a member of First Union Congregational Church for well over 60 years and enjoyed many Sundays attending services alongside Bo and numerous other family members.

Jan’s unique tastes extended to every aspect of her life. She famously lived off a diet of coffee, dark chocolate, aged cheese, and wine. Even in her 90s, she could recount every outfit she had ever worn to an event since her childhood, a testament to her remarkable memory and personality. And in a style, all her own, every car she ever owned was a convertible, which was a delight to her grandchildren, who thoroughly enjoyed borrowing them whenever they had the chance.

Jan’s life was one of distinctive preferences, and unforgettable moments. We should all be so lucky.
