50501 Quincy Illinois plans to hold peaceful assembly Saturday in Washington Park

QUINCY — As part of a National Day of Action, 50501 Quincy Illinois is organizing a peaceful assembly to oppose a wide number of decisions being made by President Donald Trump, DOGE and the current administration in general.
Some of the decisions that 50501 is protesting against are:
- tariffs and international trade war motions
- international students having their VISAs revoked without provocation
- civilians being detained and removed from the country without due process
- continued war spending in foreign countries that are complicit in the deaths of countless innocent people
- discriminatory restrictions on bodily autonomy of targeted groups of civilians
- budget cuts to services such as Headstart and the country’s National Park Service
The event will feature a moment of silence for all people suffering globally as a result of weapons and military provisions supplied by the United States.
A drop-off location will be onsite to collect food and resources to benefit Horizons Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. Suggested donations include canned fruit, canned vegetables, crackers, instant oatmeal and hygiene products such as deodorant and bar soap.
In a press release, Allison Huber, a member of 50501 Quincy Illinois, said, “We do not consent to apathetically resign the fate of our society and the sovereignty of our free wills to the blatantly exploitative and irrevocably damaging decisions and actions of an administration that does not represent the best interests of our selves, our families, our neighbors, our communities or our nation.”
50501 describes itself as a non-partisan non-violent resistance to the takeover of American democracy by Donald Trump, Elon Musk and their billionaire allies. With no budget, no centralized leadership and no institutional backing, hundreds of peaceful protests were mobilized in all 50 states.
On April 5, 50501 united with a coalition of grassroots organizations to mobilize millions in the largest non-violent day of resistance against the Trump presidency to date.
