PALMYRA, Mo. — The 23rd annual Flower Children’s Spring Fling to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held Saturday, April 19, at the American Legion Hall, 600 Short in Palmyra.
The event will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. provided by HATS Restaurant. A live auction will begin at 7:15, featuring items such as:
- sporting event tickets for the Cardinals, Royals, Chiefs, Mizzou football and NASCAR
- premier bottles of bourbon, such as Weller and Rip Van Winkle
- patio furniture
- American Girl dolls
- handcrafted and woodcrafted items
- restaurant and spa gift certificates
Various skits and prize-eligible games will take place. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased up to the day of the event.
The event will be hosted by the Flower Children Relay for Life team, which is in its 26th fundraising season for the American Cancer Society. The team has raised more than $1.4 million to date and is anticipated to cross the $1.5 million mark this weekend.
The name Flower Children came from Palmyra’s nickname as the Flower City. Event coordinator Mark Bross said the team was established shortly after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in the late 90s.
“There were some other friends of ours that were dealing with cancer as well,” he said. “So in honor of them, we started our relay team.”
According to the Cancer History Project, Relay for Life has raised nearly $7 billion for cancer research since it began in 1985.
Direct donations can be made on the team’s Relay for Life profile page. To donate auction items, make a cash donation or purchase tickets, contact Mark or Stephanie Bross at (573) 769-2365.
