Resurfacing of bridge deck complete, Memorial Bridge to reopen Tuesday
QUINCY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday the Quincy Memorial Bridge (U.S. 24) will open Tuesday.
Normal traffic patterns will return to the Bayview Bridge and the Quincy Memorial Bridge, though lanes may be closed to remove traffic control devices. All lanes are scheduled to be open by the end of the week.
The $7.25 million project consisted of resurfacing the bridge deck, joint replacements and repairs, painting, structural steel repairs and lighting replacement. Remaining work will be completed in the spring.
The closing of the bridge originally was scheduled for April 1, but it was pushed back to April 22. The completion date for the project, however, remained unchanged as Nov. 30.
The first vehicle traveled across the Memorial Bridge in May 1930.
IDOT plans to improve more than 3,500 miles of highway and nine million square feet of bridge deck over the next six years as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through the second year included approximately $5.2 billion of improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway, 270 bridges and 428 additional safety improvements.
