Safe Moves for Seniors program to benefit from ‘Raising Dough’ event at Panera on Friday

QUINCY — A fundraiser for Safe Moves for Seniors, the philanthropic arm of Golden Bridges, is set for 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Panera, 3738 Broadway.

When Golden Bridges was formed 12 years ago, the owners knew they wanted to help seniors in the community with their transition needs. Even then, they wanted to find a way to help people who could not afford their services. Safe Moves for Seniors helps those in need.

The U.S. Census Bureau says 20 percent of Quincy’s residents are age 65 or older, and 12.7 percent of the seniors — approximately 1,038 people — live below the federal poverty line. Many of these seniors face critical life transitions such as downsizing, relocating due to financial hardship or entering assisted living, yet they lack the physical ability, financial means or family support to move safely.

Without access to affordable moving assistance, these vulnerable residents often remain in unsafe or unaffordable housing conditions, risking eviction, homelessness or further health decline. Traditional moving services are cost-prohibitive, often exceeding $2,000.

Safe Moves for Seniors exists to fill this gap by providing compassionate and free moving assistance to low-income seniors in crisis.

Donations will be accepted beginning immediately. Seniors seeking the services will need to complete an application process and meet financial thresholds to qualify for a grant.
