South Shelby FFA named top chapter at Missouri state convention

SOUTH SHELBY, Mo. — South Shelby FFA members recently attended the 97th Missouri State FFA Convention, which was held April 23-25.
After spending a day competing in nursery landscape, agronomy, livestock and dairy foods, members attended the first general session. At the general session, the South Shelby FFA chapter learned that not only had it earned a gold rating but that it was in the top 10 — and then named the top chapter in Missouri.
On day two of the convention, members competed in food science and also had Lindsey Magruder competing in advanced speaking. At a session held later that day, Callie McWilliams was awarded the State Fair scholarship. Maicyn Ratliff was awarded the area winner in the small animal production and care proficiency category, and McWilliams was awarded with the area winner and state runner up in sheep production proficiency category.
On the final day of the convention, members started at a career fair where they gained knowledge on options for their future education and career opportunities and concluded with six members receiving their state degrees. Receiving state degrees were McWilliams, Ratliff, Shelby Buckman, Sophie Dovin, Axel Jackson and Christopher Roush.
